Data is or data are?

I suppose we all can (to some extent) count, right? But for some words it’s hard to tell. So, let’s see how to make heads or tails of it.

data is or data are

this word is quite tricky, and it depends on how you look at it. It’s natural to imagine data as a whole sum of information, that’s why we use is more often, but in the academic writing are is preferred; simply because academics argue that singular for data is a datum, therefore data should be use as a plural. However, in standard English, both options are considered correct ✓.

info (inf.) is also uncountable

knowledge is✓ not are

advice has only singular form
